Student Survival 101

Student life is a major transitional period and along with all the good things that come with that, all these changes such as leaving home, taking new opportunities and family relationships can cause some anxiety.

As students ourselves here at student yak, we wanted to give you a few tips on how to deal with some of these things…

Meeting People…

Meeting people who are in the same situation with you can be a real comfort. Often, they’re going through the same problems as you and might have some useful tips and advice to help. Going to social events organised by your university and fresher’s fairs is a good place to meet other students just starting uni too.

Finances…

Make you find out all the information you need about any financial help you might be entitled to. These should be someone at your university who you can talk to who will help you find out if you are receiving the right type and amount of loans.

Studying…

Making sure you have your timetable ready and you’re prepared for all your lectures. Just having the right equipment and textbooks can put you at ease. Also, check out what resources are available like where the library is, if there are computers available and printers/photocopiers because you never know what you’ll need them.

Making a realistic timetable can be good because it’ll help you distribute your time, making sure your work gets done but so that you also have time for social activities too (watching Student Yak).

Basically, just keep yourself organised and watch a lot of Student Yak!

See ya in counselling on Monday!
