Student Yak's Guide To Christmas TV
If like me, you watch a lot of television, you know that at Christmas time it can be hard to keep track of what's on the box, especially when you've got so many deadlines.
There are so many things to think about: What Christmas specials should you watch? What time is everything on? Are there any good movies on? Will the Doctor Who Christmas Special be as sh*t as last years?
Well lucky for you, I've put together this guide to the 2016 Xmas TV Schedule!
Monday 19th December
Sir Lenny Henry: A Life on Screen (9pm, BBC Two): one off special celebrating the life and work of the writer, actor, and comedian Sir Lenny Henry.
Alan Carr’s 12 Stars of Christmas (10pm, Channel 4): Alan hosts a special festive quiz show, featuring Alesha Dixon & Rob Beckett. (continues every day until 23rd)
Tuesday 20th December
Paul O’Grady’s Favourite Fairy Tales (9pm, ITV): Paul travels to Germany to explore the world of the Brothers Grimm.
Lip Sync Battle UK Xmas Special (10:35pm, Channel 5): Shane Richie, and Jessie Wallace go head to head.
Thursday 22nd December
QI Christmas Special (10pm, BBC Two): Series N continues as Sandi Toksvig hosts a special episode about Noël.
Mock the Week Christmas Special (10:30pm, BBC Two): The gang return with some topical Christmas comedy.
Friday 23rd December
Strictly Len Goodman (7pm, BBC One): As Len prepares to leave Strictly, he looks back on his 12 years on the show.
The Last Leg Christmas Special (9pm, Channel 4): The boys look back on 2016, as the series comes to an end.
Graham Norton Show Christmas Special (10:35pm, BBC One): Graham is joined by Will Smith, Helen Mirren, Naomie Harris, and Martin Freeman, for a festive special.
Saturday 24th December- Christmas Eve
Blankety Blank Christmas Special (6:30pm, ITV): The classic gameshow returns for a one off with David Walliams at the helm.
Michael McIntyre’s Big Christmas Show (7:25pm, BBC One): Guests include Catherine Tate and Harry Enfield.
Googlesprogs Christmas Special (8pm, Channel 4): The kid’s edition of Googlebox returns to take a look back at 2016.
Through The Keyhole Christmas Special (10:30pm, ITV): Keith Lemon hosts a special edition of the show.
Sunday 25th December- Christmas Day! (whoop whoop)
The Queen’s Christmas Broadcast (3pm, BBC One & ITV): The Queen addresses the nation and the Commonwealth to reflect on 2016.
The Great Christmas Bake Off (4:45pm, BBC One): Part one of the festive special, and the shows last appearance on the BBC (sad times)
Doctor Who (5:45pm, BBC One): A real superhero joins The Doctor in ‘The Return of Doctor Mysterio’.
Maigret’s Dead Man (9pm, ITV): Rowan Atkinson returns as the French detective, to investigate a new murder.
Mrs Brown’s Boys (10:30pm, BBC One): Agnes and the family return for the first of two specials
Alan Carr’s Christmas Chatty Man (10:30pm, Channel 4): Guest include Gary Barlow, Dannii Minogue, and Martin Kemp.
Monday 26th December- Boxing Day
The Great Christmas Bake Off (7pm, BBC One): Part two of the last ever Bake Off on the BBC.
Lego’s Big Christmas (8pm, Channel 4): A behind the scenes look at the world’s biggest Lego store in Leicester Square.
Big Fat Quiz of the Year (9pm, Channel 4): Jimmy Carr hosts the annual quiz, with guests including David Mitchell, Mel Giedroyc, and Sarah Millican.
Outnumbered (10pm, BBC One): The Brockman family return for a festive edition of the BBC sitcom.
Wednesday 28th December
Robot Wars: Battle of the Stars (8pm, BBC Two): Part 1 of a celebrity special of the popular series.
Jonathan Creek (9pm, BBC One): Alan Davies returns as the amateur detective to solve another mystery.
Thursday 29th December
Robot Wars: Battle of the Stars (8pm, BBC Two): Part 2 of a celebrity special of the popular series.
2016 Wipe (9pm, BBC Two): Charlie Brooker looks back on 2016 in his usual satirical manner.
Friday 30th December
8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown New Year Special (9pm, Channel 4): Guests include Sean Lock, Johnny Vegas, Jon Richardson, and Sara Pascoe.
Modern Family (8:30pm, Sky1): The hit US sitcom returns for its eighth season.
Saturday 31st December- New Year’s Eve
Peter Pan Goes Wrong (6:20pm, BBC One): A screening of the popular theatre show.
The Graham Norton Show New Year’s Special (10:25pm, BBC One): Guest include Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Laura Trott.
New Year’s Eve Fireworks (12:00am, BBC One): The annual fireworks display, broadcast live from London.
Sunday 1st January- New Year’s Day
Sherlock (8:30pm, BBC One): Sherlock returns with the first of three episodes, ‘The Six Thatchers’
Mrs Brown’s Boys (10pm, BBC One): Agnes and the family return for the second of two specials.
That is a lot of tv, 34 shows to be exact. If you miss any of that, you may as well drop out of uni now because it'll take you months to catch up. Christmas TV is always great, and this year it looks like all the channels are going to be delivering some top quality entertainment!
But, you know the deal: No TV until that essay is finished #priorities
