There Isn’t A Vaccine For Stupidity, But There Is For Meningitis!

Let's be honest, meningitis isn’t the first thing you want to think of when you’re just starting uni. Partying, getting to know your new friends, and familiarising yourself with all the local clubs are going to be at the top of your priority list. BUT (and it’s a big butt) being a fresher puts you in a ‘at risk’ group meaning you’re more likely to contract it.

The first thing you can do is make sure you’re aware of the symptoms, this is super majorly important because some of them can easily be mistaken for the effects of a bad hangover or the famous fresher’s flu that’s always going round this time of year. Plus, if you know what the symptoms are, you might also be able to help someone else!

There isn’t a vaccine for stupidity, but there is for meningitis! We’d advise that you get vaccinated if you haven’t already and tell all your friends – we want everyone to know!

SOME MENINGITIS SYMPTOMS:

  • Severe headache

  • Stiff neck

  • Dislike of bright lights

  • Fever/vomiting

  • Drowsy and less responsive

  • Rash (anywhere on the body)

We know that Student Yak is all about joking around but we really want you take this seriously because it could make a huge difference. This is one thing that most definitely isn’t for the bantz. I can be deadly and you have to act fast! If you’re worried about any of the symptoms, then we advise you go and see a doctor. Better to be safe than sorry right?!

There are loads of places that you can go to get help and advice, here are some quick links:

See ya at the doctors office!
